BIR ANNOUNCES THE ADVANCE CHILD TAX CREDIT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Joel Lee, CPA, Director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue announces the launch of a two-day tax assistance program to ensure that all residents of the Virgin Islands can take advantage of the advance child tax credit payment offered through the American Rescue Plan of 2021. The Bureau's audit staff will help non-filers with the filing of their 2019 income tax returns in order to qualify for the program. This is a free service offered to taxpayers who did not file a 2019 return.
The Advance Child Tax Credit Assistance Program will be offered on Saturday, July 10th and Saturday July 17th. Assistance will be provided on a first come first serve basis. The program will be available on St. Thomas, at the Bureau's office at 6115 Estate Smith Bay, in Red Hook, and on St. Croix, the program will be held at the Bureau's office at 4008 Estate Diamond. It will be offered from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. for both Saturdays.
Taxpayers should have available a valid ID, as well as all W-2VIs, 1099Rs (Retirement Income), or other forms of income verification readily available when they arrive at the office. Please also bring birth certificates and social security cards for dependents being claimed on the tax return.
Taxpayers who have filed Form 1040 for 2019 and have dependents under the age of 18 who will qualify for the advance Child Tax Credit are asked to use this opportunity to drop off birth certificates and Social Security Cards for dependents under the age of 18 to assist with the verification of eligibility for the credit.
