BIR REMINDS TAXPAYERS OF INCREASE OF MOTOR VEHICLE RENTAL SURCHARGE

Joel A. Lee, CPA, Director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue, reminds every person who rents a vehicle that the rental surcharge has increased from $3.75 per day to $5.00 per day. The updated rental surcharge return is available on the Bureau’s website at https://bir.vi.gov and in the Bureau’s offices.

All rental car businesses are reminded that they are responsible for collecting the motor vehicle rental surcharge, by placing it as a separate item on the statement given to the person who rents the car. The Vehicle Rental Surcharge returns are due on the 30th day after the close of each month.
